Food

Food glorious food… a typical bank holiday weekend

June 1, 2010
Well this weekend seemed a long one… I’m sure my stomach is delighted its over – a decadent three day feeding binge which included 2 pizzas, a hell of a lot of seafood, wine, beer and the food of three nations. I suppose though that this is what bank holiday weekends were designed for – an extra day allowing you to put your feet up, fill your belly and just enjoy being alive. God I love food.
On Friday, all the best laid plans went to waste… I wanted to begin the weekend slowly, considering I knew that we were going to be eating out at least twice. However, I fell very quickly into that Friday night rut of “Shall we just get a takeaway?” Better get the chopsticks out. I can recommend Derby’s Oriental Express for a nice Chinese.

On Saturday, we visited Pizza Express in the Westfield Center, Derby. Every time we’ve visited, I’ve been impressed with my meal – a good staple to rely upon for dinner in town, often made cheaper by the vouchers freely available all over the net.

If ever you’re in Watford and you don’t know where to eat, head to L’Artista on the high street – authentic Italian that never fails to impress.

Likewise, I can now vouch for St Albans’ Loch Fynes – perfect for seafood lovers. It’s a chain, so others around the UK may be just as good. Either way I got a wonderfully satisfying bellyfull of a variety of sea critters.

Food glorious food… I’d make the orphans proud.

Gaming

Call of Duty: Black Ops… its gonna be off the chain!!!

May 28, 2010
So we’ve had the 1st and 2nd World War and present day themes done to death in gaming…. what has been missing is Vietnam based shooters. Hang on to your hats, Black Ops looks set to take the Vietnam War and give it the Call of Duty treatment.

Expect the same great playability as just about all other COD games, hopefully with a class soundtrack set in the Vietnam wilderness.Check the trailer out and tell me that you’re not excited… I’ll know you’re lying.
Get ready for a lot of shouts of “This is my rifle, this is my gun!!!”

Tech

Perhaps the iPad will have a use after all…. but you’re going to have to rely on some pretty old school technology! Not sure how I would feel doing this to my £600 iPad thats about as resilient to being dropped as a heamophiliac baby made out of spun glass…

Netbook decisions

May 25, 2010

I’m in the market for a netbook- my wonderful wife and family are clubbing together to bring me into the 21st century… I’ve been astonished at the choice available. I’m sure these things only appeared a couple of years ago, yet there seems to be hundreds of versions of the things, each seemingly exactly the same as about 100 others. Even netbooks made by the same manufacturer are confusing, with 8 variants on each one, all ever so slightly different, yet somehow exactly the same!!!

Thankfully I’ve settled on one now (I think). The Samsung N220. By all accounts a great netbook… its distinguising feature being an amazing battery life of up to 12 hours…. that remains to be seen, but if its not then all those boasting 8 hours are more than likely talking a load of old tosh as well.

Anyway, fingers crossed on it… hope I’ve made the right choice as I’m fed up of looking around!

Blog

My my, how time flies… as long as icelandic magma activity doesn’t come into it

May 21, 2010

Well it has been a good long while since my first post…. pretty sure no-one will have read it. Stumbling across this blog would not make for fantastic reading, no doubt. However, all that is about to change… I hope. I’m going to try to keep up with regualr updates about whats been happening, my thoughts on current events etc. etc. It may have been all quiet on the blogging front of late, but a lot has happened in the last 11 months.

Just of late, volcanic ash clouds have been ruining holiday makers plans, the financial state has gone from bad to worse, Greece seems to have imploded in on itself, political violence has exploded in Thailand, there’s been a plethora of celebrity deaths, and somehow the Tories have got into number 10… albeit with a lib dem dangling off their tailcoats. I suppose if they were going to get in, at least its under a coalition… I just hope the Lib Dems aren’t seduced by the dark side and we end up with David “The Emperor” Cameron and Nick “Vader” Clegg. I suppose that might well be the way it goes – Gordon Brown played the part of Obi Wan beautifully up till the end “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine” only to disappear seconds later.

Anyway, enough of these ramblings for now… I’m back and hopefully I’ll stick around a bit longer this time.

Blog

Mutter mutter mutter.. lets see what this blogging thing is all about.

June 15, 2009
Well… here it is. A blog about stuff. All sorts of stuff. Stuff I like, stuff I don’t stuff that… sorry, just had a sip of tea… what was I saying? Oh yes, a blog about all the stuff that pops into my head. Well not all the stuff, otherwise I’d never do anything else, and this blog would just be “And then I wrote something in my blog… and then I wrote something else in my blog… and then I wrote something else in my blog” and so on.

Anyway. Back to not writing in the blog… so I can do some things and see some stuff, then write about it in the blog.

I’ve now got a headache.
